This is the first of 11 new Aboriginal community controlled Child and Family Centres being established across the Northern Territory.

The Big Rivers Child and Family Centre is situated on Katherine Terrace and will offer support services for young people from pregnant mothers and infants through to young people and their families.

Child and Family Centres coordinate the delivery of support services to children, young people and families and assist them to navigate the local service system to make sure they receive the assistance they require to live happy and healthy lives.

A number of key stakeholders attended the opening including Minister Lawler, Katherine Mayor Fay Miller, Roper Gulf Deputy Mayor Helen Lee, Children’s Commissioner Colleen Gwynne, members of the Local Advisory Group, and a large number of community sector organisations and community members.

The next Child and Family Centre will be established in Tennant Creek and is due to become operational mid-year.
